My daughter was 2.5 years old a year ago when she accidentally pulled down a baby changing table on her head while I was getting her potty chair set up in a public restroom. It hit her right in the forehead and she was very scared and it hurt.
A couple days later, out of the blue, she started stuttering. I didn't know if anything caused it, like perhaps the hard hit in the head by the changing table. I took her to the doctor and was told it's a common age for stuttering to start, that I should wait and see what happens.
I couldn't shake the feeling that it was related to the head injury, but she was acting normal otherwise, and there didn't seem to be anything we could do right away (wait and see if it would go away or not).
My small group was praying for her healing, as well as me and my husband. But the stuttering only got worse. I kept praying and thinking there was a reason to pray and not just wait and accept it.
I heard Alexander Venter's sermon on Friday night at the Holy Spirit Conference [2024]. When he shared his story of stuttering as a child and God's power to heal him, it seemed like the Holy Spirit imparted discernment to me that my daughter's stuttering was the result of fear from her accident. At church in that moment, and on my way home, I prayed for the spirit of fear to leave her in Jesus' name and prayed for protection and covering for her.
Saturday at about noon, I realized she hadn't been stuttering that day. I continued to listen intently over the next few days. I didn't hear a single stutter since I prayed for her to be freed from the spirit of fear. I am overjoyed with thankfulness and gratitude to Jesus for this healing, and I'm so thankful for our church to teach us about these things!!
