Global Missions Support FAQs
1. Why is Vineyard Columbus adjusting missionary support right now?
Over the past year, our church has faced financial challenges. As we continue pursuing Jesus’ mission in the world, we also want to steward our resources wisely and live within our means.
In recent years, VineyardColumbus has given more than 20% of our total income to mission work — are markable level of generosity — but one that is not financially sustainable long-term. Going forward, we will tithe 10% of our general giving toward mission so that we can continue sending and supporting missionaries for many years to. come.
We will continue prioritizing missionaries who:
• Are Vineyard Columbus members
• Serving in places where 2% or fewer of the population identify as Christian
• Commit to raising up local leaders and churches
2. How is that 10% used?
Vineyard Columbus gives 10% of all generalofferings toward mission in three key areas:• 3% — Church planting and missions through Vineyard USA• 3.5% — International missions• 3.5% — Local missions (ESL, Food Pantry, Value Life)
3. What prompted changes to financial support for missionaries?
Several years ago, our leaders set guidelines to ensure missionaries have a strong and diverse base of support. The goal was that Vineyard Columbus would contribute no more than 20%of a missionary’s total budget so they would not be overly dependent on a single church.
Because of current financial realities, we are now moving more quickly to align support with those guidelines.
4. Who is impacted by these changes?
Some missionaries will see reductions in financial support; partnerships with organizations will transition out over the next year.
Even where financial support may change, our relationship, pastoral care, and prayer for these missionaries remain steadfast.
5. Will Vineyard Columbus still support organizations?
Going forward, VineyardColumbus will focus mission giving on individuals and families who are sent directly by Vineyard Columbus, rather than giving to organizations. This allows us to be more personally connected to those we send and to provide care and accountability through direct relationship.
We will continue to support organizations who engage in international work (Convoy of Hope, for example) through special offerings. This support is above and beyond the 10% tithe fromVineyard Columbus.
6. How is Vineyard Columbus caring for missionaries through this transition?
We are walking closely with each missionary affected by these changes — offering encouragement, spiritual support, and guidance as they develop additional partners and resources. We remain deeply committed to their wellbeing and success in ministry.
7. When will these changes take effect?
All changes are being made gradually, withseveral months of continued support to allow missionaries time to adjust andplan well. Our desire is that every missionary will feel cared for, honored, and supported throughout this process.
8. How can we as a church family respond?
• Pray for peace, provision, and encouragement for our missionaries.
• Stay engaged with mission updates and opportunities to financially support them.
• Hold onto hope — believing that God is at work in every season.
