What vineyard columbus believes about worship...
The Westminster Catechism states that, "The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever." We were created to worship God! The Bible says, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord"! We believe that God deserves our adoration and praise. Worship at Vineyard Columbus is about an encounter with God. It is during worship that we come into contact with the living God in a deep and powerful way. Worship is when we turn our attention away from the pressures and stresses of daily life, and through song, honor God for who He is and what He has done for us!

Worship is designed for the whole person. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind." Our hearts recognize who God is. Our souls respond to His magnificent character with passion. Our minds connect with the truth of what we are singing about God. Our bodies demonstrate outwardly what is going on inside of us- we bow when we are humbled, we lift our hands in praise, we dance for joy.

Worship is also a way for the whole church to connect with God together- as His children. As we encounter God's life-changing presence we grow in unity and love for each other. We believe that God is powerful enough to both meet us individually and speak to us as a church as we worship Him together.

What vineyard columbus worship looks like...
Our desire is for people to be able to walk off the street, into our worship service and be able to experience a dynamic encounter with God in a culturally relevant way. This is why...

  • We worship for 20-30 minutes. It takes time for people to re-focus and open themselves up to God.
  • We all get to participate in worship. The worship band and choir serve to lead us into God's presence, not to perform for us.
  • We have songs that express a variety of honest responses to the Lord. Joy, gratitude, sorrow and need are all valid responses to God's presence and our songs will make room for the spectrum of our emotions.
  • The Bible teaches that God "dwells in the midst of our praises." During worship many people feel God touching them deeply. You may see people with their eyes closed or with hands raised. Some people will look overjoyed. Some might even be crying. God is doing something in them at that moment.
  • We have a worship band that plays a variety of contemporary musical styles. God values diversity and we want to reflect that in our worship music.
  • We have a simple auditorium.
  • We dress casually, allowing people to "come as they are."
